Dr. Martin Tan – B.D.S. (Singapore)

The cornerstone of Delta Dental Surgeons was laid by Dr. Martin Tan, a proficient dental surgeon with more than 10 years of experience under his belt. In 2004, Dr. Tan graduated with a Bachelor in Dental Surgery degree from the National University of Singapore. Thereafter, he served in various local public institutions such as the Health Promotion Board and the National Dental Centre, before going into private practice in 2007.

As the principal dentist at Delta Dental Surgeons, Dr. Tan strives to provide excellent workmanship for all of the clinic’s patients. He particularly enjoys engaging in restorative dentistry, oral surgery and dental implants.

When he’s not next to the dental chair, Dr. Tan can be found obsessing over computer games, Lego or Star Wars (ask him about his collection!).

Preventive dentistry is maintenance for your teeth. Procedures under this category include Scaling and Polishing, Fluoride Therapy, Fissure Sealants and Root Planing. These procedures greatly reduce your risk of getting gum disease, cavities, and other dental problems.

It is important to see your dentist every 6 months for a thorough check-up and maintenance, and also for an X-Ray to identify any problems and have them taken care of before they worsen.

If you've got a cavity in your tooth (either from decay or physical trauma), your dentist may fix it with a filling. To do so, the dentist removes the decayed tooth material from the cavity, cleans the area, and then fills it up.

By sealing off spaces where bacteria can enter, the filling will also prevent further decay.

There are 2 ways to remove a tooth: either by a simple extraction or surgical extraction. In a simple extraction, the dentist simply removes the tooth using a forcep.

However, if the tooth is buried under the gum, such as an impacted wisdom tooth, surgical removal is necessary. The dentist will make a small incision near the tooth to remove it.

If you have a missing tooth and need a replacement, a dental implant is the closest thing you can get to a real tooth.

A dental implant is a prosthetic tooth mounted on a titanium screw, that is fixed into the jawbone beneath the gums. Dental implants also benefit general oral health because they are easier to floss and clean, and do not have to be anchored to other teeth, like in the case of bridges.

If your bone is too thin or soft to support an implant, you may need a bone graft. A sinus lift may be necessary if there is not enough bone height in the upper jaw.

Crowns are ceramic caps that are cemented onto damaged teeth or implants. For instance, you may need a crown to replace a large filling when there isn't enough tooth remaining, or to cover your tooth after a Root Canal Treatment.

Apart from reinforcing a damaged tooth, crowns  can be used to improve a tooth’s appearance, alignment and bite. Gaps left by missing teeth can cause your other teeth to shift, which can result in a bad bite. Crowns help prevent this from occurring.

Dentures are removable appliances that substitute for missing teeth. If you’ve lost some or all of your natural teeth, whether from injury, tooth decay or gum disease, replacing missing teeth makes eating and speaking easier, and improves your physical appearance.

A S T H E T I C

Aesthetic dentistry concerns the physical appearance of the tooth. Procedures under this include Teeth Whitening / Bleaching and Porcelain Veneers.

Teeth Whitening
We mainly offer two kinds of whitening services:

Our Home Whitening Kit is a take-home kit that includes customized trays and whitening gel. Our kits contain a higher concentration of hydrogen peroxide as compared to those from drugstores, so it’s stronger (and more effective), and thus a consultation with a dentist is necessary.

Lastly, Chair-side Whitening is simply whitening using laser, within the clinic.

Veneers
Veneers are thin sheets of porcelain or a composite resin material, which are cemented onto the front surface of the teeth. This can give your teeth a whiter and straighter appearance.
